Many people decide to enroll in martial arts classes for a variety of reasons. One of the most popular is physical conditioning. Martial arts is a great way to get into shape, and you can progress at your own pace.

At The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts we show the student how repeating the exercises necessary to learn even the most basic of martial arts moves can help you increase your physical stamina and endurance. People today are much more sedentary than in past generations, and those that really aren't interested in the usual exercise programs or sports will most likely be captivated by martial arts training. Of course, beginners start by slowly learning moves and mastering the proper techniques. After mastering the move they practice with greater speed.

Reflex and coordination drills are vitally important to the martial arts, and a portion of each class will be spent on practicing these drills. We emphasize stretching to minimize injury and increase flexibility. Finally, non-contact sparring reinforces the earlier lessons and keeps everyone in motion. The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts does not require that the student spar. In fact we encourage every student to go at their own pace and do what suits them.

As the students advance, they will be learning to use their bodies smoothly and with grace. Their bodies will be trained to move efficiently and quickly. Martial arts training will teach you to use your entire body as a unit.

Of course, all that practice results in greater muscle strength. The controlled, repetitive movements needed to master different martial arts moves strengthen the all important core muscles as well as muscles of the extremities.

And, at The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts we augment our practice sessions with traditional martial arts teachings that emphasize healthy eating, exercise and an attitude of self respect. Our students are encouraged to be the best that they can be, both on the inside and outside!
